Paradise Safaris

A must do for movie fans, this half day safari journeys to the head of Lake Wakatipu and in to the picturesque Paradise Valley.

This region is packed with movie locations, including The Chronicles of Narnia, The Water Horse and X-Men: Wolverine and most famously, the Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit. Your guide will deliver entertaining commentary about the region and anecdotes from the filming of the movies.

Beyond Glenorchy follow the Dart River to the spectacular filming location for Isengard. This location offers stunning views of Mt Earnslaw. Head to Paradise to discover the location for the Forest of Lothlorien.  Leaving Glenorchy and returning towards Queenstown you will stop at 12 Mile Delta to explore the location of the Ithilien Camp.

Why stop there? Go further with the full day excursion and see even more Lord of The Rings locations. Explore these movie locations  as well as the Wakatipu Basin and enjoy a delicious lunch at a local Arrowtown café.

From there the trip heads to the Arrowtown River where the loss of The One Ring at Gladden Fields was filmed. Travelling from Arrowtown we head to the Kawarau Gorge where the filming took place for the Argonath, or Pillars of the Kings. Leaving the Kawarau Gorge the trip heads back to Queenstown and a birds eye view onto Deer Park Heights- which was used for the refugees of Rohan and the Battle of the Wargs scenes.
